Welcome to Words of a Heart, also known as WoaH! Perhaps this writing community is different than any other that you have been a part of. The members are here to help out other fellow writers, young and old. There are several policies here that are not commonly found or enforced in other writing forums. Because we believe that teaching is a strong element of learning, we encourage writers to critique and review the works for others. In fact, for each piece that a member submits to be critiqued, he or she must critique two other pieces. This is to ensure that all of the writing here is looked at and given a fair, decent critique.
Not only is the goal of this site to improve the writers of today, but to also exercise and make the mind think. Sometimes, it is easy to say that humans as a species don't do enough of it. We encourage members to use their imagination in the greatest ways possible. There are plenty of writing contests, thoughts and reflections, puzzles and other activities that will force the gears in one's mind to turn, to move, to exercise. Naturally, other than developing your skills as a writer, you are also expected to change as a person, to expand your horizons and the corners of your mind. Are you up for the challenge? Be prepared to think.
The Bulletin Board Consider this board your information center. Guidelines, updates and news will be posted here. We ask that you read through the threads here before posting. Please check back here on occasion; if there is a change in the guidelines, there will be an update or notification of some kind. Moderator: Penguiduck
Filing Documents Questions? Comments? Suggestions? Need help? If you feel the need to address the staff members for any reason, you are free to post your concerns in this board. On the other hand, if you wish to keep your conversation private, PMing a staff member will be fine as well.
Salutations and Farewells Start a thread here to introduce yourself once you join! Also, if you are planning on leaving for any duration of time for whatever reason, you are most welcome to come here and post an absence thread. Going in, going out-- this is the place for it.
Advertising and Affiliation (3 sub-boards) This is just what it sounds like. Both guests and members are free to post ads and requests for affiliation. Members can even comment on sites if they wish. Please take a look at the guidelines before you make a post, however.
[Inspiration] An Aspiring Passion! We all have a passion for writing, regardless of what form it comes in, or else we wouldn't be here. So here's the first pit stop. What drives you to write? What makes you want to write? What inspires you to write what you do? How do your ideas develop among the mundane tasks of your everyday life? Share your stories and wisdom with the rest of us, and perhaps we can learn a bit from each other.
[The Process] Muse to Push you through! Getting started with a piece is step one, but once you get into the multi-chapter process, how do you fare? What do you choose to do to continue writing? How do you sketch out an entire story after you have an idea? What keeps your interest in your piece long after you've begun it? Always looking for advice, eh? This is the right place.
[Conclusion] All Good Things Must Come to an End... After finishing that novel or even that chapter, what do you choose to do to complete that final process? Will you have someone else read over it for you? Will you edit it over and over again until your pleased with the final product? How do you feel about going back and changing the minor things? What about the major aspects of the stories? And how would you handle the situation if you discovered that there is a huge plot hole in your piece? Let's find the answers.
[Characters] The Fictional Loves of our lives! We all create them, and we all love them. ...but that is simply a comment made and placed upon the very surface. There are much more to characters than what many people are led to believe. Once created, they envelope us in their turmoils and joys. They become one with their creators-- how do you create your characters? Why do you give them the personalities that you do? Who are these imaginary beings? Are they even imaginary? Oh ho. More questions.
[Writer's Block] Overcoming the Accursed! Writer's block, a lack of muse, not wanting to write-- call it whatever you would like. Eventually, we all face a period of time in which we simply don't feel like continuing a story or if we are stuck at a distinct place in the plot where we can't continue. How do you, my fellow writers, cope? Is there anything that you may do to help ease this lack of desire to write? What have you done in the past that may help? Let the inspiration flow once more!
[Poetry] 'tis the Fragrant Blossoms of our Hearts... Perhaps writing fiction and stories really aren't your thing. Maybe you're better at another genre of writing... something like poetry or prose? If so, come here to give and receive advice. Why do you write poetry? What makes it so special? How do you feel when you read a good poem? What does a good poem consist of and how should it stir your emotions? Etc.
[Style] Everyone's got someth'n to offer... Regardless of how you may write, you must realize that people write using very different styles. Thus, come here and ask questions, discuss why people write the way that they do and how they may go about doing it. These differences may include sentence structures, point of view, basically the small things that people may not pay attention to.
An Extra Boost Do you have something specific that you would like to work on? Would you like to improve your descriptions and details? Perhaps the development of your characters? Or maybe you just want some help developing your unique writing style. Make a post here and let the members help you!
Technicalities For those with specific questions about punctuation, spelling and grammar, this is the board to come to. All of those technical gurus out there can help us out with these sorts of things. Or if you wish to address a common problem that you've been seeing, then go ahead and start a thread there.
Research For those whose writings are geared toward a specific purpose, such as creating a roleplay in a certain time period or even putting together a research paper, post here. Members who are educated about your subject can help or even find you reliable resources to gather information. Even if we can't give you a definite answer, we can most definitely propose ideas.
Publishing To publish or not to publish? Many things may contribute to this decision, including your age, financial situation and connections-- come here to find advice from those published authors or give encouragement. Also, perhaps you know of other sites out there that publish your works, and you prefer to do that? Let us know!
The Catalogue Everyone is welcome to start a single thread here and document all of his or her works. This way, users who are eager to see what other things you have written can do so. Please refer to the directions before starting your own thread.
The Office If you wish to help others by offering up critiques for those who come to you, then feel free to start a thread here. State your rules, regulations, and mention anything else you may want others to know. You are expected to monitor and keep your own thread clean. Even if you choose not to open your critiques, you may start a thread here just to keep track of the critiques you have done.
Fantasy and Science Fiction Often deemed as "make believe," these stories speak of tales that are out of this world and into the realm of human imagination. Dragons and dwarfs, princesses and wizards, magic and myth, ships and aliens, future events and things that would have been... if your story includes the above, it belongs in this board.
Action and Adventure Stories of danger and puzzles, of brain and brawn, of treasures and trapdoors-- the action and adventure genre keeps readers on the edge of their seats. If the main character is always getting him or herself in trouble, then this is probably where your piece belongs.
Mystery and Horror Do you like to write about ghosts and phantoms, blood and death, crime and justice? If you enjoy leaving your readers afraid of the dark or with chills running down their spines, then this is the board for you.
Romance and Love Post those stories of lust and love here, tales of couples that were simply meant to be, the hardships of loved ones who are separated! Speak about vows of everlasting love and the future that lovers and friends many share with one another.

Poetry, Prose and Lyrics Allow your poetic license shine by posting any poetry or lyrics here for others to read and review. Stories and tales in the form of prose, poems of sadness and emotion, lyrics that you plan on publishing one day-- they all belong in this board.
Roleplay Posts For those of you who enjoy roleplaying (an interactive game in which at least two people take turns writing), this is where you can have one of your posts looked at by other members who are willing to help. Because roleplay writing is different than other sorts of writing, it is important that others know what kind of a piece it is.

Center Stage (3 sub-boards) Much like a showcase board, members who reach 30 posts can PM me for their own sub-board. They can give it a customized name and a description. This is where members are to post any finished (or unfinished) pieces that they do not wish to be critiqued. Members are permitted to do whatever they want with their showcase boards (within the rules, of course)-- journal threads, discussions and updates are all welcome.
